Goals from Luis Consigliero and Robert Montovio secured a 2-0 win for FC Olympique 13 over Bruno’s Magpies on Sunday afternoon.
The second win of the season for the boys in green could have been more had it not been for an impressive performance by the Bruno’s goalkeeper.
Playing under the late October sun, Lewis Fraser’s side started strongly against the side that missed out on promotion last season via a play-off final defeat.
Few chances were created in the opening twenty minutes until Olympique grabbed the first goal.
A free-kick on the left by Alan Parker, who was at his creative best on Sunday, was met by Consigliero who volleyed in from all of eight yards.
The Magpies began to threaten and created a couple of chances themselves, with their striker getting behind the Olympique defence but unable to beat goalkeeper Jordan Perez with a weak strike.
Olympique’s lead was almost doubled after half an hour when Duane Robba had a curling strike from the edge of the box drift inches wide of the near post.
On the stroke of half-time, the Olympique bench were up in arms when Parker went down in the box. Despite the protests, the referee didn’t give a penalty and Olympique’s lead was just the one at the break.
Starting the second half brightly, Consigliero almost grabbed his second with a curling strike that was heading for the top corner, only for the Bruno’s keeper to brilliantly palm it away.
Just two minutes later, Montovio and substitute Graham Alvez linked up well and the former Lincoln striker’s downward header looked to be a goal but for another superb stop in the Bruno’s goal.
With twenty minutes go, Bruno’s created their best chance of the game and should have scored – but their midfielder could only shoot over from a few yards out.
Then, Olympique punished the Magpies and doubled their lead just a few minutes later as Montovio volleyed in from the edge of the box.
Bruno’s failed to create another chance as the Olympique defence stood strong and held on for a deserved 2-0 win.
Fraser’s side will be looking to record back-to-back victories next Sunday when they face Leo F.C.
