Quick Chat: Catch up with the gaffer

It’s been a slow start so far for Olympique 13 this season with just one win in four for the boys in Green. We sat down with Lewis Fraser after last night’s match with Angels to catch up with him.

It’s been a difficult start for yourself and the team. What’s your thoughts on the games played so far?
While the results have not gone our way we have been unlucky with injuries, suspensions, referees and everything else. However, that’s not taking away from the fact we need to be better. Much better!

How’s training been so far for the squad?
Training like for everyone else in Gibraltar is tough, however the boys get it done. The effort is certainly there.

Has the season so far been a lot more difficult than you expected?
Believe it or not, no it hasn’t. I know how tough football is here, I’ve always said not to underestimate the league this year.

Olympique were branded favourites before a ball had even been kicked, do you think that’s been an added pressure?
Yes. Look, every team treats us as their cup final. It makes my life hard, I watch them play against other teams and they never look half the team they are when they play us. However, we cannot use this as an excuse. We must rise to the occasion and not let teams do this to us.

Up next is Bruno’s, you love to noise them up a bit. Any special preparations for that?
It’ll be the same prep as every other game. The boys were not good enough last night. I’m expecting a reaction. It is must win, end of.

Are you finding it a little bit difficult being away from family and friends back home?
Horrendous, nothing worse than being away from home comforts and family. However I’ve been here long enough to have a good core around me. This is home for me now.

What team would you put down as favourites so far?
Everyone can beat everyone. I like how Boca play. However, nobody has stood out. Everyone will drop points.

Finally, we’re already getting close to the January window, have you got your eyes on a few signings?
As part of the clubs development there is already a couple of overseas player lined up as the club looks to push on.
